ISSLS Membership Application

Welcome to the application portal for ISSLS Membership. To be considered for membership, applicants must meet specific criteria and submit the required documentation. Please review the following sections based on the type of membership you are applying for:

Active Membership (Full Membership)

Eligibility Criteria

To apply for Active Membership, applicants must:

1. Obtain Sponsorship

• Submit two letters of recommendation from current ISSLS members.

• Letters should confirm the sponsors:

• Are familiar with ISSLS membership criteria.

• Fully endorse your application.

• Example sponsor letters can be downloaded below.

1. Submit an Up-to-Date Curriculum Vitae (CV)

• CV must be in English and clearly demonstrate your focus on the lumbar spine.

• Must include a complete list of peer-reviewed publications.

• Minimum publication requirements based on career stage:

• Early Career (Age 40 or under and/or within five years of MD/PhD):

• At least three spine-related published manuscripts as lead author.

• Senior Career (Over age 40):

• At least six spine-related published manuscripts as lead author.

2. Describe Key Contributions

• List three significant contributions to spinal research, treatment, and/or education on the application form.

• Include PDF copies of these works with your application.

3. Demonstrate ISSLS Meeting Participation

• Must have attended at least one ISSLS Annual Meeting within the past four years.

• Must have been the presenting author of a spine-related paper or poster at that meeting.

• Virtual presentations are accepted.

Associate Membership (Junior Investigator)

Eligibility Criteria

To apply for Associate Membership, applicants must:

1. Obtain Sponsorship

• Submit two letters of recommendation from current ISSLS members.

• Letters should confirm the sponsors:

• Understand ISSLS Associate Membership criteria.

• Endorse your application.

• Templates available below for reference.

2. Submit an Up-to-Date Curriculum Vitae (CV)

• CV must be in English and demonstrate a clear interest in the lumbar spine.

• Must include a full list of peer-reviewed publications.

• Minimum requirement: At least one spine-related published manuscript as first author.

3. Describe Key Contributions

• List your three most significant contributions to spinal research, treatment, or education.

• Include PDF copies of these contributions with your application.

4. Demonstrate ISSLS Meeting Participation

• Must have attended three ISSLS Annual Meetings within a five-year period.

• Must have been the presenting author of at least one spine-related paper or poster during that time.

• Include the years and titles of your presentations.

• Virtual presentations and the cancelled 2020 Melbourne meeting also qualify.

Application Submission & Deadlines

• Application Deadline: September 1 (annually)

• Decision Notification: Approximately October 15

• Submit all documents (including sponsor letters) with your application form.
